The character is in the detail.

The visual language draws from Hannington itself: an illustrated village identity, deep green typography, warm neutral backgrounds and photographs of lanes, buildings and countryside. The design has enough space to let those details tell their story.

We balanced an editorial feel with the clarity of a useful local resource. Large serif headlines establish character, while simple navigation and readable text help residents and visitors find their way. The same visual rhythm runs through the information pages, making the site feel like one considered experience.

History you can move through.

The dynamic timeline turns a long village history into seven approachable moments. Selecting a date changes the accompanying photograph, heading and story, from the village’s Domesday origins through the Freke family and the railway age to modern community spaces.

That interaction gives the reader control over the pace. Someone can take a quick look, follow a particular interest or move through the full sequence. A clearly selected date keeps their place in the story. It is a small, purposeful use of technology that makes the content more inviting to explore.

Useful information, thoughtfully connected.

The Our Village page brings landscape, heritage and local character together. Links to the map and conservation information help readers turn curiosity into a fuller understanding of the place. Events and village updates provide reasons to return.

The journey is deliberately connected. A photograph prompts interest, a timeline entry adds context, and a map or information link provides the next step. On smaller screens, the hierarchy keeps the story and the useful actions close at hand. The aim is to make everyday information as considered as the more expressive parts of the site.

A living resource for village life.

Structured content and contribution routes support events, local updates and participation over time. The directory and advertising offer provide a supporting commercial layer, while the experience remains centred on the village and the people who use it.

All advertising and directory income, less Stripe payment processing fees, goes to Friends of Hannington. BRAVEDOG funds the website’s design and ongoing provision and takes no fee, commission or share. The site is an independent community project, separate from the Parish Council’s formal responsibilities.

Small place. Considered digital experience.

Hannington shows how strong visual design and purposeful interaction can make a community website richer and more useful. Its distinctive identity, engaging timeline and connected information pages help people discover the village, understand it and take part.

Device mockups illustrate the website’s design. Original village photography credits and licence information are available on the Hannington website.
